History of Scotland part 1

Scottish History begans in about 14,000 years ago, when the first humans began to inhabit what is now scotland. The time period the first humans arrives was call the devensian glaciation (The last Ice Age).
Recorded history of scotland began when the romans first arrived in Brittania (Brittania was the roman name for what is now called britain which includes the countries of England and Wales). At the time the roman empire controlled England and Wales, but did not have controll have Caledonia (Scotland) which was the area north of England. In AD 43, the first military contact started between the caledonians and the roman empire, including battles like the battle of the orkney islands and the battle of mons Grupius both resulting in roman victories. Althought the romans failed to conquer Caledonia, they attempted to maintain control through military outposts and built a few roads. They eventually chose to withdraw from the southern parts of caledonia. The romans reasoning for withdrawing was that they felt that the wealth of the land did not justify the military requirements.
